Some focus on company performance, whereas others focus on people.
I’m sure you’ve worked in environments where different leaders had different measures of success. According to McKinsey —
Having a dual focus on people and performance can improve profitability, performance consistency, and retention.
OK that’s great in theory. But what do you need to do to get there?
How you can emulate the “People + Performance Way”:
- Transparent performance expectations and incentives
- Support for entrepreneurship and initiative-taking
- Widespread ownership and alignment with vision
- Empowering and challenging leadership style
- Companywide innovation and collaboration
- Effective on-the-job coaching and training
- Inclusive work environment
The problem with cyber security, is there’s such a high demand for specialists, you need to invest in your people or they’ll go elsewhere.

There’s a number of ways organisations can increase diversity, and it’s especially interesting when you know Bias takes so many forms.
